It makes sense aesthetically and it works well as a living arrangement for years.

What it also means is that the sectional in that room is receiving afternoon sun at the same time that family members are using it daily. Two things accumulate on that fabric simultaneously, and neither one is obvious in the early stages. Body oil from daily contact with the headrest areas, armrests, and seat cushions builds up gradually.
